History Through Film

Course Description:
This one or two semester course explores historical events and their significance through the medium of motion pictures. Students engage in discussion and analyze the events depicted. The films shown may have ratings above PG and include such selections as "Elizabeth", "Malcolm X", "Empire of the Sun", and "Gandhi". Prior to viewing each film, students research the events, individuals, and background of the film.

Special Considerations Concerning this Course:
  • All films will be previewed by the teacher. The films shown may have ratings above PG.
  • Videos may not be taken home by students. All films shown in class should be available at local video stores and/or libraries.
  • History through Film is designed to engage all members of the class in discussion and analysis of events depicted in a particular film as it relates historically or to current trends and issues. There will be limited assigned "outside of class work"; therefore, class attendance is very important. Please keep this in mind when scheduling appointments.
